The Norman Ballet Company
Established in 1984, the Norman Ballet Company (NBC) has brought the beauty of classical ballets to Norman and surrounding communities. The NBC’s mission is to give professional performing experiences to young, aspiring dancers throughout central Oklahoma. It also gives young dancers the opportunity to advance their experience in performing arts, grow in art appreciation, and share this growth with the greater community of central Oklahoma.
For over 30 years, the company has produced original ballets: The Little Prince, Secret Garden, The Oklahoma Nutcracker. NBC has also restaged many classics such as Cinderella, The Firebird, and Coppelia. The Norman Ballet Company also sponsors workshops for young area dancers and provides community outreach opportunities for local organizations. The support of our community, corporations, and individuals has resulted in a rich tradition of ballet productions in a professional atmosphere that has become an integral part of the arts in Norman.
Since the company’s inception 1984, Marjorie Kovich, has served as Artistic Director and Choreographer of the Norman Ballet Company. During her tenure she has guided and led the ballet company through 35 years of public performances that have not only delighted audiences but also provided many young dancers with invaluable performance training and experience.
Now, more than thirty-five years since the NBC’s inception, hundreds of students later, and thousands of audience members who have attended the company’s many performances, Ms. Kovich attributes the success and longevity of the Norman Ballet Company to the support of the Norman community, the Norman Arts Council, the Oklahoma Arts Council, dozens of volunteers, and all who have invested in the vision and efforts of the Norman Ballet Company. The young dancers have shared their joy and exuberance on the stage and thrilled us all.
